Excursions

The three most famous valleys in Ticino are also the three most spectacular. In all three valleys you will find a well signposted, varied and long network of hiking trails. A visit is practically a must.

Valle Maggia is the largest of the three valleys and is shaped by the Maggia River, which flows down the valley with a thunderous roar. Magnificent mountains, wild nature as well as ancient stories and culture are waiting to be discovered. All of this is combined with excellent gastronomy in the many small grottos.

Also known as the Maldives of Switzerland, the Valle Verzasca lies at the northern end of Lake Maggiore. The stone basins formed by millions of litres of water invite you to take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear, greenish-bluish water. From the smallest municipality in Switzerland to the 220 metre high dam wall, the Valle Verzasca has pretty much everything to offer.

The wildest valley in the region is the Valle Onsernone. The southern flank of the valley is covered in dense forest, while the northern flank is home to many small, quaint villages. The almost endless greenery in this valley, with its spectacular gorges and rushing white water, has a mysterious effect. One could assume that it was precisely for these reasons that young dropouts came to the furthest village in the valley - Spruga - in the 1980s and settled there.
